Chinese Horoscope
When you live with Chinese
people you often hear things like, "This year is the year of the
tiger and next year will be the year of the rabbit".
When refering to the
age of a Chinese person, we usually say that a certain person is 24
years old and they are a horse and that his older brother is 26 years
old and is a dragon.
But, how does this mean?
They are referring to the Chinese Horoscope. The Chinese have taken
12 animals to represent the twelve terrestrial branches that traditionally
design the years. Somebody that is born in a certain year will automatically
belong to a certain animal.
The twelve animals form
a circle (once the circle has concluded it starts again). They are called
"the twelve animals of the horoscope". The order is: rat,
ox, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog and pig.
Using this system many
Chinese people know how to calculate the age of a person according to
their animal horoscop and viceversa.
