Family Planning Policy in China

The family planning policy started in China in 1978. The current policy consists, mainly in advocating marriage, encouraging late procreation and promoting that every couple only have one child. The government sometimes allows certain married couples to have a second child after a determined period of time.

In areas with ethnic minorities a more elaborate policy exists . In general, the family planning policy is more flexible in the countryside than in the city, the same happens in areas with ethnic minorities.
