FLUIDITY
Fluidity
decreases with silences, repetition of certain phrases, etc....For some
people trying to speak fluently can cause great difficulties and it
is difficult from people to overcome them. Others find fluidity problems
only occur in certain situations, especially those where the speaker
experiences an increase in anxiety or insecurity.
In
general, people regard lack of fluidity as a sign of insecurity, boredom,
incompetence or lack of interest, because of the content of the conversation.
Therefore, it is not good that every time we speak we can not talk fluently,
we should try and work to improve it.
There
are three types of fluidity problems:
Excessive use of silences: long silences
in the middle of a sentence make understanding difficult. People view
excessive silences negatively, especially when they come from people
we don't know; we usually associate them with anxiety, anger or disdain.
Excessive use of clichés: clicheés
that are repeated excessively throughout the speech, to "fill silences"
between ideas. They usually indicate that the person is nervous and
sometimes bored.
Stuttering problems, repetitions, omissions,
incorrect pronunciation of words, etc. This problem is usually
the most difficult to eliminate, and sometimes it is necessary to resort
to language therapy. It is therefore important to know that there are
professionals who specialize in these sort of problems.
CLARITY
Speaking
clearly can become difficult when we gabble, speak badly, drag our words
or have a strong accent. Often people interpret gabbling or speaking
badly as a sign of anger or that you are impatient. On the other hand,
draging your words is usually a sign of boredom or that you are feeling
sad.
SPEED
The
average speed which a person speaks at is around 125-190 words per minute.
Above 275-300 and the person who is speaking becomes unintelligable.
When a person speaks quickly it is usually because they are feeling
certain emotions like happiness, surprise, excitement, vehemence, anxiety…
Speaking
excessively slow can also loose people, making communication difficult.
Speaking slowly can be a sign of boredom, depression or confusion.
