Team
Work
The success
of the leader depends on whether he has a good team with competent
people around him.
No leader
can be successful alone.
The only way to succeed with a project is if you are supported by
the best.
Besides,
the future of the company demands the leader to have an excellent
team which is capable of working when the leader is not around.
The leader
needs to be confident enough so that he doesn’t feel threatened
being surrounded by talented people.
When the
leader chooses his collaborators, the criteria that he uses means
he chooses the best for the job. He looks for competent people with
a strong personality, with drive, with their own ideas, that know
how to work along, but that are faithful and honest.
It would
be a big mistake for the leader to surround himself with people that
think like him, people that aren’t very problematic.
Working
as a team means sharing information, being open to discussions, knowing
how to listen, being receptive to good ideas that others put forward.
In short,
create a participating atmosphere in which people can liberally express
their opinions and ideas.
The leader
will admit (and promote) the argument whilst the problems arise (people
can give their points of view), but once a decision has been made
he will demand the team acts without fissure.
For a team
to function it is essential that there is harmony amongst its members,
therefore the leader will worry about achieving an atmosphere where
people understand each other.
It is fundamental
that there is communication within the team.
It is necessary
that the team members share the same vision as the company.
It is important
to have frequent meetings (daily or weekly) that help people to bond.
Besides, these meetings will allow the leader to follow subjects closely,
creating agile rhythm.
The leader
will promote responsibility within the group, ability to make decisions,
to assume risks and to respond to results.
It is fundamental
that the leader knows how to delegate.
The leader
has to avoid overprotecting his collaborators, they have to get used
to assuming responsibilities.
The leader
will demand loyalty from his team; he will show total loyalty to his
employees.
The leader
will defend his team when it is attacked.
The leader
will worry about his team, their professional development, their learning
and their future.
Finally,
the leader has to remove mediocre people, those that are indifferent.
If he does
not do this, the group will end up deteriorating and negatively affecting
the company.
