LIGHTS
AND SHADOWS (4)- THE COAT
Now
we are going to add shadows to the coat. First to the woolen part.
For this area we are going to use toasted earth colour (941) and we
do exactly what we did in the previous lesson. Dilute the paint with
water, and softly paint the wool. As the water is very diluted it
looks like we have poured dirty water over the wool. When it dries
the pigment will remain in the gaps, giving the feeling of depth.
This technique is called WASHED.

Here
you can see what our figure currently looks like. You can see the
lights and the shadows, which we have made with the dry bush and the
washed technique. Now all that is left to do is to paint the outside
part of the coat and the belts.
