I chose various objects with different tones, lighter and darker and I put them in the scene.

For this exercise you need paper and a soft pencil or even charcoal.

What we are trying to do is convert the colours that are in front of us into different grey tones.
Observe how I have placed the darker objects at the back and the lighter objects at the front.

The dark objects give the impression that they are moving further away to the back, whilst the light objects seem to be close-up. Using the rule of our visual perception, I can get the drawing to gain the impression of depth.

Half close your eyes so that you can only see shadows and lights and then you begin.
