Self Knowledge
Know
yourself – this is the best advice that has been around for
centuries.
Therefore,
you can only love what you know; if you don’t know yourself
very well, it is difficult to love yourself.
Some
questions which people find difficult to answer are: who are I? Why
do I react like this? What made me feel like that? Etc. If we can’t
answer these questions, we don’t know ourselves well enough.
It
is said that when we learn everything about ourselves, then we can
live; we can not live with something or with someone we don’t
know; nor can we apply capacities, resources or unknown skills.
Knowing
ourselves not only positively affects our self-esteem but it also
affects our relationship with others, also our understanding of the
world, the universe.
A
contemporary physician claimed: “we have carried out enough
tests that indicate that the key to understanding the universe is
you”.
Reaching
an optimum level of self-knowledge, entails understanding others by
knowing yourself and identifying the individuality of every human
being, recognizing the dependency between “yourself and others”.
