Bastille or Hilvan Stitch and its variants
This is a simple Stitch. It is used to gather the fabric. It is done from right to left, inserting the needle in the fabric and pulling it out 3 or more threads ahead depending on the size we want the stitch to be. We can make several stitches at once before pulling the needle out; we just need to be careful how we slide the thread.
As we mentioned at the beginning of this lesson, we can use this stitch to gather the fabric we are using. Once we have finished the row of stitches (in a straight line), we pull the thread delicately in order to gather the fabric.
Bastille or Hilvan Stitch variants
We embroider several bastille rows in a parallel manner exactly one line next to the other.
To embroider several parallel lines, but in an alternate manner.
We embroider a bastille row. Once we are done, we make another pass with a different coloured thread (or we can use the same colour) rolling it on the thread of the previous row, and this one will be on top of the fabric.
