Depth of Field (Continued)

You will see 3 pictures in the following example. The three of them were shot at the same distance and using the same diaphragm (f/5.6).

On the first picture, I used a 200mm DX lens. Notice how the model is in focus and the background is completely out of focus.

On the second picture, I used a 105mm DX lens. The background is still out of focus but now some details are beginning to emerge. This gives us a better understanding of where the model is.

On the third picture, I used a 55mm DX lens. The background is practically in focus. Some elements now even distract the viewer.

The second factor that will influence the Depth of Field is the distance between the photographer and the subject being photographed. The further away this subject is, the more Depth of Field we will get. As a result, if I take a picture using the same lens and diaphragm, but in the first picture I'm 3 meters away from the subject being photographed and in the second picture I'm 7 meters away, the second picture (7mts) will have more Depth of Field than the first one (3mts).
