Clouds

This photograph was taken at noon, at 1:30 pm, in a cloudy day with rain. You can see the streets are wet.

The exposition was f/6.3 at 1/100, with an ISO 200.

Since it was raining, there was little contrast. When we shoot the photograph, there will be detail in highlights and shadows. There is a loss of colour saturation and light is less intense. We can compare this photograph to photograph 10, which was taken at 4 pm. There, we will see clearly the differences in contrast, colour and intensity.

However, when it rains, depending on the subject or scene we are shooting, we can sometimes achieve interesting results. The rain, water actually, can give interesting sparkles and reflections of different surfaces.

If we compare photographs 22 and 23, even though both are a little flat and weak, photograph 23 has a little more sparkle thanks to the reflection of the water on the streets.

This photograph was taken at 4 pm in summer, in a partially clouded day.

The exposition was f/4 at 1/400, with an ISO 200. Since the clouds were not so dense, there was a little contrast in the scene. This added depth to the image. Colours were quite saturated making this scene more interesting.

The clouds were acting as a gigantic diffusing panel. Thus, light was softer and diffuse in comparison to a sunny day. This favoured the photograph since I didn't want a strong illumination for this portrait.
