First
we have to cut the charcoal up into various different managable sized
pieces which we can use to draw with. It is essential to have pieces
with different thicknesses.
This
is a sander, which consists of a small piece of wood which has sandpaper
stapled to it. We will use this to sand the charcoal down and shape
it (evenly). Once we have done this we can start drawing.
Let's
pick up the charcoal. We are going to try and benefit from using this
drawing utensil. The end result of using charcoal depends on the way
you use it as a utensil and the way you hold it,
Start
by drawing various straight lines with different thickness and by
holding the charcoal lightly and then with more force.
A
trick to help you draw a straight line - always look at the end of
the line and not where you are drawing.
