Built-in flash

Built-in flashLet's remember that the flash is one that comes in the camera and you can not get it. It is the most limited of all the flashes as it has very low power and the type of lighting will be straight ahead.

But this does not mean we can not use it correctly and improve our photos. To be limited not mean it's worthless!

Built-in flash is used to add light or illuminate when the light conditions fall below a certain level. When this happens, or in low light, many cameras will automatically activate the flash to illuminate the scene.

The meter in the camera that determines when there is insufficient light, and generally when the speed is lower than 1/30. Why the speed? Because it is the minimum speed at which most people can hand hold the camera without image blur.

There are now on the market some more sophisticated models even detect when a person, for example, is in a backlight situation. A backlight is when the person is back to the main source of light, for example, back to a window.

When we take in a backlight situation the person, in general, will go dark and the background will come out properly exposed. Why not leave the person and the background well exposed? Because the contrast very high and the camera, as we saw above, can not register much contrast.
These cameras can detect these situations and will fire the flash to fill the dark parts of the picture. In the example of the window, to illuminate the individual.

The biggest problem I've seen in people to take pictures during all my years of teaching photography, it always had the built-in automatic flash and did not know how to manage or control it.

Thus in some pictures of the flash lighting was good, and other flash literally ruined the picture. And of course they did not know why. Who does not have a photo taken with flash where the background is very dark or black and the person is completely white (burned)? To the extent that it is sometimes difficult to know who he is.

Most cameras today, but all have several flash functions. In general are: auto flash, flash off (off), red-eye reduction, flash off, and some cameras have a slow synchronization function (low sync) or night scenes.
