THE PRESENT PARTICIPLE

 GRAMMAR

The present participle is used to descirbe an action that is developing precisely at the moment in which the main action takes place.

The present participle is used above all in the press, in letters and administrative language.

We have already seen how to form the present participle when we studied the first french course (See lesson on Gerunds Lesson 44)

• It is formed by taking the first person pluar of the indicative and replacing "-ons" with "-ant".

	Je vois mon ami parlant avec son entraîneur
	Le voleur courant a été arreté par la police

	La mère préparant le repas parle avec sa voisine
	Le méchanicien réglant la motocyclette s'est coupé un doigt
	Le vendeur essayant de convaincre ses clients a fait une offre très intéressante
	Le chirurgien opérant le patient a fait une erreur
	Le directeur discutant avec son collaborateur a été frappé
