Lets begin this lesson by studying the German prepositions. In German, each prepositions goes with a specific case. Therefore, there are prepositions that have to be followed by the accusative case, others by the dative, etc. We will begin by introducing you to some of these prepositions:

Aus	From
Bei	In, with
Mit	With
Nach	After, towards
Von	Of
Zu	To
Prepositions with the accusative case
Für	For
Ohne	Without
Durch	Through/for
Prepositions with the genitive case
Wegen	Because of
Trotz	In spite of

Here are some examples:

Ich gehe aus dem Haus	I leave the house
Ich wohne bei meiner Mutter	I live with my mother
Er spielt mit dem Kind	He plays with the boy
Er bekommt einen Brief von seiner Freundin	He receives a letter from his girlfriend
Er geht zum (= zu dem) Arzt	He goes to the doctor
Sie macht einen Spaziergang durch den Wald	She goes for a walk through the forest
Sie kauft ein Geschenk für ihn	She buys a present for him
Wegen der grossen Nachfrage, haben sie ein zweites Geschäft eröffnet	Because of the demand they opened a second shop
