Nouns can be constructed from different types of words
a) Verbs can be used to make nouns
The majority of nouns come from verbs.
A verb can carry out the function of a noun.
lachen (to laugh) / das Lachen (laughter)
Da ist mir das Lachen vergangen. |
I stopped laughing. |
Ich habe für das Klavierspielen keine Zeit. |
I don’t have time to play the piano (lit. playing the piano) |
Ich liebe das Reisen. |
I love travelling (lit. travelling) |
Hör mit dem Arbeiten auf. |
Stop working. (lit. finish work) |
b) Adjectives used as nouns
unmöglich (impossible) / das Unmögliche (the impossible)
rot (red) / das Rot (the red one)
Ergeht bei Rot über die Straße. |
He crosses the street when it’s red. |
