Introduction to Gimp 2.6.11

GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) is a program used to edit digital images in a bit-map form; both for images and pictures. This program is free and open source. It is a part of GNU project and it is available under the General Public Licence of GNU.

This is the most common image editing program found in operating systems, such as Unix, GNU/Linux, Windows, Mac OS X, among others. It is also included in many GNU/Linux distributions.

The GIMP interface is available in many languages, among them: Spanish, English, French, Italian, Russian, Korean, and many others.

Gimp is a strong, fast, and solid alternative to Photoshop in many ways. However, it has not been developed as a clone of Photoshop since it possesses a different interface.

In this basic course, we will learn to use the tools for creating graphics. In a second part, we will learn how to edit images. In both cases, the use of tools and functions will be developed by means of an example, which is downloadable to be used as a guide.
