Lesson 4ª

Interface or Work Area

On the Previous Lesson, we learned how to open the program form the from the shortcut found in the desktop. In case it is not available, we need to press the Start button, All Programs, and look for Gimp in the list of our programs.

Once we have opened the program, we will describe its interface or areas on which we can access the functions and tools.

The title bar (1) will always show the active document. With the buttons (2), we can minimize, maximize or change the size of the screen and the close button.

Similar to other regular programs, the menu bar (3) has the functions grouped depending on the characteristics of the program. In later lessons, we will see their functions.

We also have our work area (4) between two panels (5.1 and 5.2) which appear automatically. The tools panel (5.1) is located on the left and the Layers, channels, paths, etc. panel (5.2) on the right. However, both panels are floating panels. In other words, we can move them around to the place we like best or comfortable to work with.

We can also change their size to customize our work area. .
