Lesson 49 ª

Brightness and Contrast

The functions of Brightness and Contrast don't need much explaining since most of us know something about these variables. In the case of Gimp, when we select the Colours Menu, then Brightness and Contrast, we will access the window with the scroll buttons to adjust them as we see fit.

or whenever we are looking for a specific effect.

Besides, we can access a more complex set of controls for Brightness and Contrast by clicking on the 'Edit these Settings as Levels'.

Since it is more complex, we won't explain the results we get with this function in depth.

If, for example, we move the triangles (in red) randomly, we will relocate the range of levels for both Contrast and illumination, sometimes achieving spectacular results.

We can also use each channel independently in the same manner we did on 'Curves'.

And as in many windows in Gimp, we can Reset it and start all over again until we reach the result we want.
