Lesson 18

13.d) STREET, AVENUE

OBJECTIVE: To create a good group atmosphere.

MATERIALS NEEDED: Nothing

AGE- Any

HOW TO DEVELOP THE TASK- All of the members of the group should be in

various rows with their arms stretched out, practically touching hands with

their other colleagues.  All  except  two, one will have to try and  catch the

other. The  one  that is  trying   not  to be  caught should  run  through  the
'avenue' or 'street', which will be marked out by the rest of the participants.

If the participants  are horizontal  they are  representing a  street; if they are

vertical   they are   representing an  avenue. The  participants should try and

be  still.   The two  that are running  can not go  under  the participants arms,

and they can only run in the direction of the street or avenue.

The   monitor should   sit infront  of  everyone  indicating  if  the  participants

should   form   a  street  or    an    avenue.      The  monitor  will  shout  either

"street" or "avenue". The monitor can change the direction as many times as

he  likes.  As   soon  as  the  other  member  has  been  caught the game stops

and someone else can have a go.

THINGS TO CONSIDER-   The  leader  will  be  in  charge  of  shouting  'street'

or 'avenue'  (although he may like to get involved in the game).  The  leader

needs  to  make  everyone  participate and once everyone has had a go, the

game can come to an end.

13.e) DYNAMICS OF THE MATCH

OBJECTIVE.- Establish relations ships with members of the group.

MATERIALS NEEDED.- Abox of matches, paper and a pen.

AGE.- Any. You can adapt the game according to the ages of the group members.

HOW TO DEVELOP THE TASK.-   The  leader  should  prepare   a  list  of  questions

which   the   group,   sat   in  a   circle,  have    to  answer.  The  questions  can   be

familiar  or  particular (e.q.  say  the  name  of  your  mother and father, brothers,

sisters, your favourite sports, etc).

The  presenter  should  ask a question to the first member of the group. When the

group  member is asked the question, he should light and match and only when he

has answered the question can he pass it to his colleague. The game demands speed.

THINGS TO CONSIDER:  The  kinds  of  questions that  you ask should be in keeping

with the level of the group.
