CHARACTERISTICS OF THE GROUP - UNITY
Unity
of the GROUP is essential in order for it to function adequatly. The
role of the coordinator is also essential within the group. Amongst
other things he should anticipate the member's behaviour and also
understand the circumstances they are under. It is not the same when a
16 year old boy is angry to when a 23 year old boy is angry ( we expect
the elder boy to be more mature). The coordinator has to distinguish
whether this happens in a certain class or amongst members of a certain
association. However, the coordinator has to promote unity within the
GROUP whatever the conditions are.
In
these types of situations the presence of objectives is important as
they promote team work. Carrying out objectives guves group
satisfaction (and individual satisfaction).
Through
carrying out objectives the members are given the feeling of
belonging to a group, as whilst carrying out the objectives the
members have all gone through the same motions: co-operation, unity,
success, etc. The feeling of belonging varies on how integrated each
member of the GROUP feels.
