In the layers window, I create a new layer (layer 1). As you can see, the new layer has a transparent background. I will place the picture layer (the one with only the black lines) over it.
Next, I will choose the selection tool "magic wand". I place it over the white surface and I click. With this, you select everything that has the color whit on the image.
