Lesson 5ª

One of the best known authors of Pop Surrealism is Gary Baseman.

Without any previous academic background as an artist, he abandoned a career of commercial art and illustrator to be able to express himself more freely and move to more interesting topics: desire, frustration, death.

His work has a naive look. His characters usually have frozen expressions and conventional traits. They are usually located in unusual landscapes full of leafless trees and bubbles. The purpose of the author is to break the line between traditional and commercial art, reaching an ample audience who are linked through the new technological media. His most noticeable influence is that of vintage cartoons and pin-ups.

In this process, we just need to keep our authenticity and a strong self-image to be acknowledged in in the middle of this seas of icons bombarded to us by our culture.
