Lesson 15ª

The eye liner.

The eye liner helps highlight our eyes and it hides some imperfections. Depending on how we apply it, it can soften or harden our look.

Types of eye liners

There are several types of eye liners, but the most common in professional makeup are:

  • Pencil
  • Liquid

Choosing the type of eye liner depends on the effect we want to achieve. Pencil eye liner provides a soft and firm look; while liquid eye liners helps us achieve a more intense look.

Form of application

To apply the eye liner correctly, first, we need to draw a line on the upper eyelid; exactly above the eye lashes. We start at the part of the eye closest to the nose.

We can use our free hand to stretch the eyelid. This make the application easier.

Then, we draw the line on the lower eyelid.

BE CAREFUL: it is not always necessary to draw the lower line. Generally, we use it when we want to make the eyes look smaller (reducing effect).

In the case of the lower eyelid, we draw the line on the opposite way as we did the upper line; from the outside to the inside.

Eyes should be half-open and looking up.

That's it! Now, the eyes are perfectly lined.

Tip: if you use pencil eye liners, do not try to apply it at once. It is better if you make short strokes. You can blend/extend the trace using a cotton swab or cotton bud or a latex sponge.
