The base

First of all, you need to know that there are 3 types of base/foundation:

  • Liquid
  • Oil or cream
  • Compact

To know which type of base we should apply, we need to consider the type of skin:

  • If the skin is NORMAL, we must use a liquid base.
  • If the skin is DRY, we must use an oily or cream base.
  • If the skin is OILY, we must use an oil-free base (liquid bases and compact bases have a low oil percentage).
  • If the skin is SENSITIVE, you need to make sure that the base we are using is hypoallergenic.

The base is extremely important in makeup, since it is the first product we apply. Its main role is to even the skin tone and cover (as best as possible) any imperfections found on the skin.

The colour of the base

Since the function of the base/foundation is to even the skin out, you must make sure the tone you use is as close as possible to the original skin tone. If you find this task complicated, you have the option of mixing 2 or more (as long it is the same type of base), until you get the colour that matches.

A good way of knowing if its the right tone is trying the tone on the arm first.

Form of application

Once you are sure you are using the right colour, you can apply it. Apply the base by doing small "touches" or "points", beginning at the forehead and finishing at the neck.

Then, you need to expand/spread the base points from top to bottom. It is a good idea to use the middle finger.
