Lesson 35 ª

Another factor you need to consider when drawing characters is their age.

Even though Manga style is not realistic (it doesn't actually reflect the way a face is affected because of time), it presents details that give out clues to their approximate age.

Thus, a baby has a round head and large eyes. Their nose is small, just like a little button. Their neck is short.

Girls are the most common character we have been studying; smooth skin, long hair, big eyes...

face

In elder age, tissue becomes loose forming wrinkles. Their chin is no longer pointy and we draw thicker cheeks and ears, as well as wrinkles going from their noses to the ends of their mouths. Their eyes are less open. We can also use their hair to give a hint of their age. We rarely see an old lady with long hair.
