Polishing and Applying The Base

Polishing nails.

Polishing is a very important step we need to perform before we apply the nail polish. With it, we correct any imperfection or unevenness there might be on the surface of nails. Our goal when polishing should be getting nails completely smooth before we apply the nail polish.

To do this, we polish the nails with a polishing board (or sponge) with relative intensity, first horizontally and the vertically (from the base to the tip).

Applying the base coat.

After the nails have been perfectly polished, the next step is to apply the base coat.

Without a doubt, this is a very important step, because this product, besides bonding any last imperfection and smoothening nails out, grants the necessary strength and protection previous to the nail polish application.

Generally, the base is transparent. It can also be found in different colours, but these tend to be too soft. Quite often, people choose a base coat in a tone that matches the nail polish they will be using later on. As a result, the resulting colour will be more intense.

We just need to apply one coat. When applying the base coat, we should do it from the base of the nail to the tip, just as you see in the image below.
