Applying nail polish

Finally, we have reached the key moment in the manicure session; the step which will make our nails beautiful: applying the nail polish.

As we mentioned previously, there is a wide variety of tones/colour, thus, we need to have as many different tones as we possibly can.

In regards to the colours we should choose, it will depend entirely on the person's taste. However, there are some aspects we need to take into consideration. For example:

  • Skin tone. White skin goes well with any type of colour, except for beige or light tones. Dark skin goes well with warm colours, gold and chorals. Pinkish tones of skin usually combine well with fuchsia and crimson.
  • The style and colour of the clothes the person will be wearing. We always need to try to create a harmony between the clothes we will be wearing and our nail polish. They don't need to be similar; just a good combination. The same happens with style: we need to see if it is traditional, sport, elegant, etc., and choose the proper nail polish.
  • Lipstick colour. It is important for us to consider the type and tones of the make-up we are wearing. In this case, the most important thing we need to consider is the tone of our Lipstick. The same as with the previous cases, we need to create harmony between both tones (nail polish and Lipstick).
  • The weather. This aspect is more subjective. It depends on fashion tendencies, which change constantly. Generally, we can say that darker tones are used in cold/cool weathers and lighter and brighter tones are used in warm weathers.
  • The length of nails. It is also important to consider the length of our nails. A tip: light tones can make the nail seem longer, while dark tones make it look shorter.

Taking all of these aspects into consideration, we can move on to the step we are interested in: applying the nail polish.

As you will find out, it is a very simple procedure. You just need to apply the nail polish carefully, starting at the base and moving towards the tip.

It is advisable for us to apply 2 coats of nail polish. This helps bring out the colour and helps it last longer.

Of course, we need to allow a few minutes between one coat and the next; the first coat should be completely dry before applying the second coat.

Done! Now, you have finished your manicure. And what's best, you are completely ready to do it any other time. If you wish, you can add more details. We will see how in the coming lessons.
