PROJECT 2: TOY COT

er

The next project is a wooden Eastern European style cot.

This time I’m going to skip the stages of sanding down and smoothing the wood and I’m going to go straight to decorating the item.

Here is the cot already painted white, ready to paint the drawings on to it.

I have decided to give it a traditional look.

To decorate it, I was inspired by the drawing from the old German manuscripts called “fracturs”. The term “fracture” refers to not only to the writing style but also to the lighting on the manuscripts, taken to Pennsylvania by the Germans.

In these scriptures, an old gothic style was used for the writing whilst the drawings that adorned the documents used medieval manuscripts as their source.

As you can see, to draw on the cot I use a flowing pencil, and if I make a mistake I erase it with a rubber.
