Preventing separation disorders
This is one of the main reasons for which owners abandon their dogs. We have most likely heard a neighbour's dog barking whenever its owners are not around, or you have probably heard stories of dogs who have destroyed the living room when there's nobody home. These are results of a behaviour disorder encompassed in the so called "separation disorders". These problems are hard to overcome, but they are treatable if the owners are willing.
The cause of these disorders is their tendency to depend on their owners and the strong links of attachment created between dogs and their owners.
We must be aware of this illness to try and avoid it during the socializing period of our dog. Since were are talking about puppies, let's explain how to avoid this.
1.We need to try for our dog to be around as many people as possible in the period comprehended between 5 to 10 months. Drastic experiences with people, specially after 3 months old, can cause a stronger dependence to its owner and disorders in the adult.
2.It's important for the puppy to experience isolation periods. When younger, puppies are so cute we usually take it everywhere we go. Later, we expect it to stay at home because it bothers too much. This is something it doesn't understand and it will wreck things to draw the lost attention from their owners.
