Comparing Results

Results comparison and feedback process

Evidently, after implementing a quality control system in a demanding environment such as the very heart of a total quality system, it is imperative to make sure that the results of this control system are compared with previously stated standards. At this point, quality handbooks come into play once again since this is the moment when all the values of benchmarking we need to achieve are reflected.

The result of verifying the accomplishment of product and process demands is a feedback process which ensures that the obtained values provoke a re-evaluation of strategic approaches and thus change (if necessary) objectives and standards or even initiating a re-structuring of enterprise processes (Binner 1998).

To accomplish this, the enterprise must maintain an open system of internal or external changes. The enterprise achieves its intended constant improvement, which completes the total quality system, by complying with this demand and creating the appropriate feedback, taking results seriously and initiating the necessary corrective measures Binner (1998).

Continuous Quality Audits.

As described in previous lessons, it is not compulsory for a total quality system to be certified by ISO 9000 norms. On the other hand, we have also explained that certifying a quality system may be considered as a residual effect in the process of implementing a TQM system (Packard 1995, Seiling 1994).

Despite this, a total quality system that feeds only from within might be defective as time goes by. As a result, it is necessary for regular or constant external audits who adopt an objective vision of the processes. Moreover, auditors may contribute in the desired constant improvement with their own "Know-How"; acquired from other total quality projects.

A certified enterprise counts with this audit service. As a result, it can guarantee that the organization will maintain its total quality system alive as well as improving it with objective help. This helps the enterprise get closer to reaching its desired excellence as well as assuring a long term survival.
