Washes. Washes come in several types. We will start with a flat wash: pour some clean water into a mug. Add colour until you reach the desired intensity (remember that watercolours, when dry, lose intensity and will look paler in comparison to wet colours). Make a good quantity of the mixture so you don't run out of colour before you finish using it. Apply the wash with side-to-side strokes, like a pendulum.
