We have to hold the paper firmly with clamps, adhesive tape, staples...
When it dries, the paper will try to shrink back to its original size. It won't be able to do this since it is held firmly against the board.
The next time we wet the paper, with watercolours, it won't expand again. Thus, we prevent it from wrinkling.
