Work
Environment
The way
the leader acts effects the culture of the company. This is done through
the style of management, his decisions, his personal behaviour, the
relationship he has with his subordinates, etc.
It is essential
to have a culture which favours a sense of responsibility, which rewards
decision making, which recognizes the results.
A culture
in which dedication and doing well is the base of a professional career,
which doesn’t admit favouritism.
A culture
which rewards innovation and favours employee creativity.
A culture
where the ethical rules are the basic rules of behaving. If someone
makes a mistake, it will be accepted and understood.
Honesty
needs to be promoted.
A culture
based, above all, on respecting people, independent of the role they
have.
The management
will be relentless in the presence of inadmissible behaviour (humiliations,
marginal, abuse of power and of course, moral or sexual assault).
However high up in the company, the person that commits these crimes
will be punished.
The leader
will worry about achieving a pleasant work environment in which the
employees feel comfortable, that they come to work excited and not
as if they are going to a hostile place.
A serious,
rigorous, demanding, but human and warm work environment.
A place
in which the employee feels integrated in the organization, he feels
valued and not just a simple instrument of the production line.
A place
in which the employee can develop professionally.
The leader
will favour “togetherness” amongst the employees.
Promote
social activities: Christmas parties, regular meals, excursions organized
for the employees families.
Motivate
sports activities: form teams within the company that participate
in local competitions.
Establish
small traditions: for example, Friday at midday everyone has to get
together for an aperitif; drawing or literary competitions for the
children of the employees; extravagant tie day; personally congratulate
employees in special moments (birthdays, birth of son/daughter, wedding,
etc); worry about difficult situations (accident, illness, death of
family member, etc).
The leader
preaches the example.
The leader
can not be a distant, inaccessible and feared person;
he will find it impossible to motivate the team.
The leader
shouldn’t loose authority in order to be closer to people,
to show that he worries about their welfare.
In short,
the employees are a great asset for the company and you have to support
them.
You have
to favour their professional and human development with the company.
The organization
should take advantage of the employees knowledge (not doing this is
a waste).
Each employee
is an authentic source of knowledge and in general, they are usually
happy to contribute to the good of the company if you give them an
opportunity.
