Still-life's Course
Lesson 1ª

.

Still-life is become easier through hard work and practice.
We usually use them as training, as they allow us total control of the model, the composition, the lighting, etc.

Almost all painters start their careers painting still life, until they manage to gain confidence with their techniques: drawing, shaping, grasping colours.

Once these techniques have been dominated, we can apply them to anything.
This doesn’t mean that still-life’s are not appreciated on their own. In fact, they are the main theme of the work of many artists.
In the paintings below you can see three very different approaches:

The flamenco approach by Jan Van de Veld

A still-life by Cezanne (Post impressionism)

And finally, another by Picasso, in Cubist style.

As you can see, still-life can be as expressive as a portrait or a scenery and it can communicate emotions and different feelings.
