Paper
was invented in China. It was introduced to Europe by the Arabic people
who had learned the technique from the Chinese.
In
Egypt they had Papyrus. This was made by pressing the papyrus flower.
Later this was substituted by banana skins, which is more economical.
Nowadays
the majority of paper comes from wood.
Concentrating
on the course, there are different types of paper:
-
Rough and smooth. Within the rough type
there are many types of texture. Depending on the material we use
to draw: pencil or charcoal, we can use one or another; if we draw
with charcoal we need rough paper and if we draw with a pencil we
need smooth paper.
-
Drawing pad or pieces of paper. You
can buy a drawing pad or individual pieces of paper. People usually
use drawing pads for sketches and if you get one you want one which
is not too big.
-
Different coloured paper. You can use
white paper or different coloured paper.
-
Different sizes of paper . The most
common size used is DIN-A4.
You
must practice whilst you are learning, and in order not to waste a
lot of money on good paper to then throw it away, you can use wrapping
paper (paper used to wrap fish and chips, fruit, meat, etc) to sketch
on. This type of paper has two sides one shiny and the other matt.
They sell it by the metre and you can cut it to the size that you
need.
