3. 6 Bringing the flavours out without using salt

Many types of food have variable quantities of salt, consequently, it is not necessary for us to add more salt when cooking or eating. Eat your meals without any salt. Allow yourself to taste the real flavour of each type of food. Use spices to improve flavour. They also grant food an added advantage: antioxidants to protect the organism. On the other hand, if there is a strong habit of using salt, it is difficult to leave it. Here we have some examples of strategies you can use to bring out the natural flavour of food and suppressing the use of salt:

  • Add seasonings like bay leaves, garlic or oregano while you're cooking, for example, rice or pasta.
  • Cook your vegetables with less water and use their stock again; they keep part of their flavour.
  • Make sauces such as vinaigrette, portuguese, pesto and light mayonnaise and keep them in the refrigerator in glass containers. You can use them later with the food you're going to eat.
  • Marinate your food (cover it with seasoning) for a few hours before cooking
  • Cook meat with seasoning or vegetables such as sweet red peppers, carrot and onion.
  • Add citrus juice while you cook meals with fish, meat and salads.
  • Mix sweet-tasting food with vegetables and meat, for example, oven-baked meat with marrow (squash) or apple.
  • Don't ingest food which contain salt, such as pickled food (olives, pickles), stock and instant soup, soy sauce, chinese food, canned goods, salted food.

A varied, balanced and moderated meal is the best road to loose some weight without risking our health. This way of eating has proven to be an ally to the health of those men and women around the world who choose to practice it in a daily basis.
