Lesson 4ª

The Document Window

In this lesson and the next, we will continue uncovering the different working zones of Dreamweaver. In this lesson, we will focus on the icons related to the document window. In the document window, we will visualize and edit the web page we are working on.

Here, we have an open document called “Untitled-1”

In the lower portion of the Dreamweaver window we have the state bar.

To the right of the state bar, we have some useful indicators. Dreamweaver shows us the size of the document in Kilobytes and the timeframe in which a regular browser would open the page completely.

To the left, Dreamweaver shows us the dimensions in pixels of the page we are creating.

We can choose one of these predefined sizes. The best size will depend on the dimensions of the monitor or screen in which the page is seen on. Given that the majority of internet users have monitors of 800x600 pixels. If we design a page using a greater size, the people trying to view the page might have problems visualizing it correctly. We need to be clear that the objective of our page is for it to be seen by as many people as possible. Thus, our page needs to be easy to access.
