is known for its industry. The most important industrial
area is the Ruhr basin. There there are mines and
above all the steel and iron industries.
Germany
produces a lot of cars. Opel in Rüsselheim,
VW in Wolfsburg, BMW in Baviera, Mercedes-Benz in
Stuttgart and Ford in Cologne. In Hamburg, they
build aeroplanes and boats. Also in Hamburg, there
is an important commercial port. The chemical company
BASF is in Mannheim, Karlsruhe and Heidelberg. In
the areas of the river Rhein and Main, there are
many banks and insurance companies. In Stuttgart
and its outskirts, metal, electronic and chemical
industries are important.
Cologne
is considered the city of mass media in Germany.
Many films and television programmes are produced
there. In Munich, there are also media companies
and editorials.
Some
of the most important companies in Germany are:
Siemens, Thyssen-Krupp, Bayer and BASF. Although
in Germany there is a lot of industry, there is
always more unemployment.
