Manicure with design

Design manicure is becoming more and more common in the world of beauty. Thousands of people go to specialized saloons searching for that different 'touch' to their nails. Of course, there are plenty of designs we can apply; simple ones like a flower, to more complex ones, like Chinese letters. They are made according to the liking of each person and they will depend on the width and length of each nail.

The first thing we need to do is get some design models. We can get them at specialized shops of manicure products. They are quite useful, both to give ideas and to guide us at the moment of making the design.

This is an example of how you can do a simple, nice and elegant design which you can use for any occasion.

  • To make a design manicure, you will need to be precise in your tracing.
  • We will need to use thin brushes (these can also be found in manicure shops).
  • To achieve better detail, we can even use some every-day tools, such as toothpicks.

On this model, we applied a flower design. We began by drawing the points (the centre of the flowers) with silver nail polish.

Once we have finished with the points on each nail, we allow a few minutes for the nail polish to dry. Then, we paint the shape of the flower around every point.

Since this step need to be more precise and defined, we used a toothpick.

In this case, you can use your nail as a 'palette'. In other words, you can deposit a small quantity of nail polish on your nail and get the quantity you need with the toothpick (see the images below).

We work on each nail carefully and slowly. It is important for us to do this work calmly and with a lot of patience; it might be counter-productive if we are working against the clock. Let's say that this type of manicure needs to be done without haste.

With time and practice, you will be able to make your designs faster and more precise.

This is the final look once we have finished the design manicure session.

Perfect. Now that we have finished this lesson, you know how to work with designs. Remember, there are countless designs for you to practice!
