Flat Running Stitch and its variants (Continued)
This variant of the Flat Running Stitch is called Indefinite or Filling Stitch and it is formed from joined and parallel stitches but in different sizes. This gives the embroidery a raised look. The stitch must always start from the border of the embroidery to the inside. This Stitch variant allows you to embroider extensive surfaces making several series of stitches, not too long, until we fill the embroidery out completely.
When we are embroidering this type of stitch and we want to achieve gradient colours, when we make different series, we use a darker or lighter tone of the thread we are using, depending on the effect we want.
Counter Stitch is another variant of the Flat Running Stitch and it is employed to embroider leaves, petals or any other surface we want. It is different from the previous stitch because the stitches are done successively opposite one from the other so the inter-link. They don't form a continuous line.
Another variant of this is the Flame Stitch or also known as Roman Filling Stitch. It is embroidered with a long stitch from one edge of the embroidery to the next. It is done from right to left. The, we fix each long stitch with one or more small stitches in an oblique shape, with regular spaces between one another.
