With the accusative
a) Direction
| Wir fliegen über den Atlantik. |

b) Crossing somewhere
| Ich gehe über die Brücke. |

c) With a time expression
| Den Sommer über wohnen wir am Meer. |
| During the summer, we live at the beach. |
d) To indicate a theme

With the dative: location

With the accusative: Direction
