Das Oktoberfest

Das Oktoberfest ist in der ganzen Welt bekannt. Es ist das größte Volksfest der Welt. Es findet jedes Jahr von Mitte September bis Anfang Oktober in München auf der Theresienwiese statt.

Die Münchner nennen ihr Fest die "Wiesn". Dort werden viele große und kleine Bierzelte aufgestellt, die von morgens bis abends gut besucht werden. Es dauert insgesamt zwei Wochen. Das Oktoberfest wurde zum ersten mal 1810 gefeiert.

Zu diesem Ereignis kommen Touristen aus ganz Deutschland und aus der ganzen Welt. Die Ausländer wundern sich oft darüber, dass in bayrische Biergläser ein Liter Bier passt. Dazu muss gesagt werden, dass das bayrische Bier weniger Alkohol enthält als das norddeutsche Bier. Aber das Oktoberfest gefällt nicht nur den Touristen, auch die Bayern gehen da gerne hin. Die meisten Hotels sind ausgebucht.

Das Oktoberfest wird vom Münchner Bürgermeister eröffnet, indem er das erste Fass Bier anzapft. Eine der bekanntesten Attraktionen ist der Trachten- und Schützenumzug, der am ersten Sonntag des Oktoberfestes stattfindet. Ein großer Umzug geht von der Innenstadt bis zur Theresienwiese. Viele berühmte Persönlichkeiten und Politiker nehmen daran teil. Dieses Ereignis wird Live im Fernsehen übertragen.

München ist allerdings nicht nur für sein Bier bekannt. Es gibt ein interessantes kulturelles Programm. In der Bayrischen Staatsoper finden jährlich die Opernfestspiele statt und es gibt ein reiches Angebot an Konzerten. München hat auch wichtige Museen: darunter das Deutsche Museum und die Pinakothek, in der moderne und zeitgenössische Kunst ausgestellt wird. In den Bavaria Filmstudios werden zahlreiche viele wichtige Filme produziert.

The Beer festival (Oktoberfest)

Oktoberfest is famous throughout the world. It is the largest popular festival in the world. It takes place every year in Munich, during the last two weeks of September until the beginning of October.

The inhabitants of Munich call their party Wiesen. They put up lots of big sized and medium sized stalls which people can visit from morning till night. Oktoberfest was celebrated for the first time in 1810.

For this event, tourists come from Germany and from the whole world. A lot of foreigners are surprised that in a Bavarian beer glass a whole litre of beer fits. It is true that Barvarian beer contains less alcohol than beer from the North of Germany. Tourists are not the only ones that go to Oktoberfest, Bavarians also like to go. The majority of hotels are full.

The event is opened by the mayor who opens the first barril of beer. One of the most important events is the Trachten und Schützenzug which takes place the first Saturday of the Oktoberfest. A great procession goes from the centre to Teresa's meadow. Many famous people and politicians participate.

But Munich is not only famous for its beer. There is an important cultural programme. In Bavaria's state Opera, there is an annual opera festival. There are also a great variety of concerts. Munich also has some significant museums: amongst them are the Deutsche Museum and the art gallery where they exhibit Modern and Contemporary Art. In the studies of cinema, Bavaria produces many important films.
