A lot of people like to go
sightseeing. It is an activity that is mainly carried out by families
who spend a few days or weeks together. As parents, we always want the
trip to run smoothly, taking advantage of the time we have together to
gain new experiences. We don't want to gamble with unforseen
circumstances.
In this lesson I am going to
give you some advice which I hope you find useful:
It is a good idea to plan your
itinerary before setting off on your trip. Try to book your hotel, know
which attractions you want to visit e.g. art centres, cultural centres,
sports areas, etc. If you can, try and print out a map of the area, so
that you know where to go. Also, try and find out any additional things
that are going on in the area, for example, festivals, shows and other
sources of entertainment which are due to happend during your stay.
When you book your hotel or
hostel, see if there are any discounts that your family can have access
to. If you have a baby, it is necessary to ask for a cot, or an
additional bed, or other service. You should always inform the hotel
beforehand so that they you receive this service.
If you can reserve the hotel
beforehand, for example by phone, or on the internet, it is a good idea
to do so. This way you don't waste time looking for a place to stay,
and this will be extremely difficult if it is high season and most of
the hotels are full.
Always re-confirm your
reservation beforehand. Also, ask for the exact hotel address, so that
there is not any confusion when you arrive. This way, you know you are
not going to arrive at the wrong hotel.
Something else to bear in mind
in the airport is your luggage. Everytime that I have to travel, you
can't imagine the number of black or blue suitcases that there
are...and as soon as the luggage hits the conveyor belt the passengers
become confused as they are not quite sure which is their suitcase, so
people take the wrong suitcase.
To avoid this situation, a
practical suggestion is to place something different onto your suitcase
which differentiates it from other suitcases. For example, some bright
sticky tape. This method is very easy and helps avoid confusion. This
technique will help you to spend less time in the airport worrying
about which suitcase is yours.
